SEPANG, Malaysia - Qualifying for the Malaysian Formula 1 Grand Prix was delayed by 30 minutes on Saturday (March 29) as rain descended on the Sepang Circuit and left pools of water on the track.
Qualifying for the second race of the 2014 season had been due to start at 10:00am but the FIA pushing the start back by 15 minutes.
'THIS IS MONSOON LEVEL'
Mercedes duo Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton were expected to battle for pole position having proved the quickest in the three practice sessions on Friday and Saturday.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner told the BBC: "The one thing here is that it dries incredibly quickly. So as soon as it stops, it will start to evaporate very quickly. So we will get out, it's just a question of when."
The safety car managed to complete a lap but appeared to struggle for grip on the soaked track.
Pirelli's motor sport director Paul Hembery said: "It's very heavy rain, this is monsoon level. When the safety car goes out there, they'll find it's rather too heavy at the moment. But it's a track where it dries very quickly. When it stops, within 20 minutes it will be fully dry. It drains well."

Further showers were forecast for later in the afternoon at the circuit, which is around 50km south of Kuala Lumpur.
