Cape Town - Ford South Africa has issued another fire-risk recall, this time affecting 15 600 entry-level Figo and Ikon cars built in India.
Ford is recalling Ikon models, built from August 9 2004 to March 24 2012, and Figo units (January 13 2009 to March 24 2012).
Its technicians need to replace the "high-pressure power assisted steering hose, which may split, resulting in a power steering fluid leak".
Power-steering affected
Ford SA said: "A power steering fluid leak could result in fumes being emitted from the engine compartment. It may also be possible for power steering fluid to come into contact with the vehicle’s exhaust system components, creating the potential for smoke and, in extreme cases, fire.
"Ford is proactively recalling the vehicles to correct the issue and will be contacting customers to advise them of the recall and corrective action.
"Ford remains committed to delivering world-class quality vehicles to our customers and this voluntary safety recall is part of that commitment. Should customers have any concerns or queries we encourage them to contact their nearest dealer or Ford Customer Service directly at 0860 011 022 or email.
