Back in November 2014 Ford's popular Ranger beat arch-rival Toyota's Hilux as the top-selling bakkie in South Africa. Now its gone and done it again...

Ford SA's Mark Kaufman said: "Ford has broken sales records every month so far in 2015 and achieving our highest-yet market share in April is testament to the response to our vehicles.

"Pricing and overall value for money are key considerations for most customers, as are safety and technology. Our current range excels in all of these and this is reflected in growing demand for our rapidly expanding cars and commercial vehicles."

Ford will launch its B-Max MPV, Focus ST, new Everest, new Ranger and the iconic Mustang beore the end of 2015.

The Ranger's title as South Africa's top-selling bakkie could, however, soon be under threat as Toyota is preparing what will become its eighth-generation Hilux.

Spy photographers captured images of the new Hilux undergoing autonomous brake tests.

The bakkie has been steadily evolving since 1968; the Gen 8 is expected some time in 2016.
