Due to structural changes within Toyota, Toyota South Africa's president and CEO Johan van Zyl's portfolio will also assume responsibility as Toyota Europe's CEO.

The new role is in addition to his existing responsibility as Toyota's Africa region CEO.

Van Zyl said: "This is a fantastic career opportunity and I am very excited about this new challenge. However, I want to reiterate that my home will always be South Africa and I remain committed to the development of the industry in this country."

The new role will see van Zyl leading Toyota in Africa and Europe, focusing on continuous improvement of production, supply and sales.

He said: "The European market is a very competitive market and can at best be described as a recovering market, showing increase in automobile sales for the first time in six years during 2014. Having said that, it is a dynamic market with a strong automotive industry."

Van Zyl will assume his new responsibilities from April 1 2015 and will be based in Brussels, Belgium and Sandton.
