'EXTREMELY POPULAR' IN SA

Mercedes-Benz South Africa's executive director, Florian Seidler, said: "New models introduced in the latter part of 2013 and during 2014 have proven to be extremely popular with customers and this success is particularly evident in the sales volumes of our compact cars, such as the new C-Class and S-Class."

Its models in the compact car segment include the A-Class, B-Class, CLA and GLA variants.  Sales of these grew by over 80% during 2014.

Seidler said: "The new C-Class was introduced into the South African market in May 2014 and has continued its domination of this competitive segment, as did its predecessor.  Our award winning factory in East London has been ramping up for increased local and export production and the success of this process is testimony to the dedication and skills levels of our employees."

"More thrilling products are coming in the SUV segment and together with a full year of the new C-Class and our offer of a complete compact car range, 2015 will be just as exciting and successful as 2014."
