Lexus SA issues brake recall

2010-10-21 09:51
Cape Town - Lexus SA on Thursday announced a recall of 470 older model IS, GS and RX cars as part of a global recall to fix a possible brake leak.

The recall in South Africa affects the following models: 2005 – 2006 IS compact sedan, 2004 – 2006 GS executive sedan and 2003 – 2006 RX SUV.

Lexus stressed the recall is not safety critical.

The company said in a statement: “A seal in the brake master cylinder may leak slightly if the incorrect brake fluid had been used at any time during the car’s life. This could lead to the brake fluid warning light coming on prematurely.”

No brake failure is expected, Lexus added.

Affected owners are being contacted and the repair should take about two hours to complete. The necessary components will be replaced at no charge to the customer.

Owners who wish to confirm whether their vehicles have been affected, can contact Lexus's customer care on 0800 220 000.
