Amakhosi striker Kaizer Motaung Junior was the recipient of a brand new Nissan X-Trail at Monday (21 May) night's annual Kaizer Chiefs Players' Awards, held at Monte Casino in Fourways, Johannesburg.

The talented 25-year old won the 4X2 off-road vehicle, along with R75  000 in prize money, when he was voted Player of the Year at the awards ceremony. Motaung made a clean sweep, winning four other trophies, namely, Player of the Month for outstanding performance in December 2006, February 2007 and March 2007; Goal of the Season in the September 2006 match against Jomo Cosmos; Top Goal Scorer of the Year; and Players' Player of the Year.

The X-Trail, awarded to the Player of the Year, is a much-coveted prize amongst the players. Handing over the vehicle, Isaac Lekubu, Nissan SA's manager of government sales, said, "Nissan is proud to be associated with a team of the calibre of Kaizer Chiefs and we are delighted that Kaizer Motaung Junior has taken top honours tonight. He is a worthy winner and we congratulate him in joining the ranks of previous victors who have had the opportunity of driving one of our flagship vehicles."

Now well out of the shadow of his famous father, Motaung Junior was delighted to walk away with the keys to his brand new vehicle. "The Nissan X-Trail has become a symbol of soccer success at this annual event and I am honoured to receive the Player of the Year title and a vehicle that matches its status."

Motaung Junior, who was nominated for six of the nine categories at Monday night's ceremony, has worked his way quickly up the soccer ladder since his club debut in 2004. He takes over the Player of the Year title from last year's winner, Kampala-born defender David Obua.

Nissan SA is the only fleet vehicle sponsor of Kaizer Chiefs and other top league soccer teams. Each fleet agreement is valid for a period of three years, with a new vehicle provided annually or after 30 000 km's. Nissan SA's association with Kaizer Chiefs goes back five years when the club signed its first sponsorship agreement.
