Chrysler sales on the up

SALES BOOST: Chrysler says sales of its vehicles have increased over the past two years especially after the 'cash for clunkers' incentive of 2009.

CHICAGO, Illinois - Chrysler posted a 45% gain in US vehicle sales in November 2011, probably the best month for sales since the "cash for clunkers" incentive programme was launched during the 2009 downturn.

Chrysler forecast total industry sales at a seasonally adjusted, annualised rate of 13.8-million, up from 13.3-million in October, 2011.

Reid Bigland, Chrysler's US bos, said: "November was another huge month for the Chrysler Group and our highest year-on-year sales gain of 2011."

November marked Chrysler's 20th month of year-on-year sales gains, which Bigland attributed to strong demand for its revamped vehicles.

The 107 172 vehicles Chrysler sold in November helped push year-to-date sales up 25% to 1.2-million.

General Motors did not fare as well, with sales up 7% at 180 402 in November and 14% at 2.3-million vehicles for the year to date.

Don Johnson, GM's vice-president for US sales, said: "We are seeing a broad spectrum of customers return to the market. Truck sales showed a very solid increase, as we expected, but the momentum building behind our most fuel-efficient vehicles was even stronger."
