STUTTGART, Germany - Workers at the German carmaker Porsche are to receive a special once-off payment equivalent to R112 000 for 2014.

The company says R9100 of the amount will go into a special pension contribution.

Porche has a workforce of 22 400; 14 600 will receive the payment, which is a result of higher-than-expected profits generated by the automaker, a subsidiary of Volkswagen.

Profits at Porsche last year (2014) outstripped those for the parent company, increasing 20% from 2013. Porsche delivered 190 000 cars to customers through 2014.
