The first A2, which we haven't seen here in South Africa, hasn't been a big success for Audi in Europe and Audi ceased production in 2005 due to poor sales.
But for its successor the German carmaker is taking a different approach as the next generation is to be sportier and will be positioned squarely against the MINI.
Recently Audi chairman Martin Winterkom said at the Geneva Motor Show that a lot of customers want a car below the A3.
It also seems as if the next A2 will take most of its styling from the sporty Shooting Brake concept car, which was shown at last year's Tokyo Motor Show.
According to insiders the new A2 will share its underpinnings with that of the VW Polo, but in Audi tradition there could be quattro all-wheel-drive versions too.
