Honda gets funky fresh at Tokyo

An unusual SUV with fresh lines and a nimble small sports car have been developed by Honda and both will reach Western markets, we are told.

Honda has unveiled a new urban SUV and the S660 Concept at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show in a bid to reclaim a stake in the sports car market.

The new SUV will be called the Vezel on the Japanese market on December 20 2013 and will be launched in Europe during 2015. Its European name is yet to be revealed.

EDGY LOOKS

Although it’s an SUV, it doesn’t quite look the part with its coupe-like styling in its upper body and sharp character lines.

Honda says it will launch hybrid and petrol versions in Japan. The hybrid will be equipped with Sport Hybrid i-DCD technology in conjunction with a 1.5-litre direct-injection engine; the petrol version will use the same unit.

The S660 Concept will aim to deliver nimble driving, outstanding stability and a dynamic design that are only possible with a mid-sized layout.

Honda CEO and president Takanobu Ito said: "This model embodies the spirited thinking of young engineers who want to make a cool car unique to Honda. They are devoting their passion and technologies to the development of this model."
