Cape Town - Toyota took the two top spots for luxury SUV sales in January 2018 after both its Prado and Land Cruiser 200 soared to the top of the chart.

It was quite the in-house battle between the two SUVs for top spot, but it was the Prado who came out top at the end of the month by a mere three units.

On 191 units the Prado is the undoubted king for the month, but only just, because the Land Cruiser 200 found 188 new owners.

Range Rover loses out

The Range Rover Velar, smaller siling to the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, came in at third place with 99 units sold, ahead of its cousin, the Land Rover Discovery, in 95 units. In fifth place the Range Rover Evoque impressed with 60 units sold, beating the Jaguar F-Pace (51 units) to the punch.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee sits in seventh place, ahead of Volvo’s stalwart, the XC90, in eighth place with 33 units sold But it is Porsche who makes a return to Naamsa’s sales figures with quite the impact. Its Cayenne sits pretty in ninth place on 26 units, ahead of the Audi Q7 (23 units).

The Range Rover/Range Rover Sport only managed to sell 21 units. This for a vehicle that ended 2017 as the second-best selling luxury SUV overall.
