You might be familiar with H-pattern gearboxes but each transmission has its own advantages and different applications.

Sequential transmissions are primarily used in racing with its split-second gear transitions a massive benefit and staying in the power band. A simple shift of the gear level - either up or down - changes gears within split seconds.

In addition, more and more cars come equipped with paddle-shifts on the steering wheel and slowly phasing out the H-pattern variations.
