The MPV has become slightly unfashionable compared to the plethora of new crossovers and SUVs now available in South Africa. However, there are still some brilliant people-movers on sale in Europe, and some as rare second-hand vehicles in the local market, albeit as private sales.

Doing the duty

Volkswagen's Touran still remains a favourite abroad, even though it is no longer sold locally. A few others like the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and Citroen C4 are also more popular in European markets.

Many people still prefer SUVs for their robustness and nifty features but MPVs get the job done - whether its loading for a long trip or accommodating a bunch of kids after soccer practice or a ballet concert.
