Next time you're sitting in horrific, bumper-to-bumper traffic, consider that SA's most congested city ranks at 90th for global traffic congestion.
For decades, Johannesburg has been notorious for its horrible traffic however in recent years Cape Town has grabbed the title for the most congested city in the country, according to TomTom's annual Traffic Index.
Mumbai has the dubious title of 'World's most congested' city. Cape Town ranks 90th on the company's list followed by Johannesburg (105th). Durban is ranked at 308 followed by Bloemfontein at 391 in the world.
According to TomTom, motorists travelling in the mother city during peak hour traffic (morning and evening) need to add an additional 20mins per 30min trip - if your journey to and from Cape Town's CBD regularly takes an hour to complete you can expect to add an additional 40mins to your commute during rush hour, according to the company.
