If there are two segments which continue to grow significantly in South Africa, it's bakkies and SUVs.

The latter is hugely popular here, and around the world, so much that even supercar-makers and exotic brands have jumped on the bandwagon to produce their own SUVs.

Porsche purists were furious when the Cayenne SUV was launched, yet its popularity has no end, and it's one of the top-selling models for the brand here in SA. Since then, and albeit in limited numbers, Maserati sees sales of its Levante each month, as does Bentley with is Bentayga. We might not know the exact figures for the Lamborghini Urus, but it's easy to spot more of these beautiful beasts on local roads. These super SUVs are definitely paying off for manufacturers.

Even Ferrari has announced that it's first SUV will be unveiled in the next year or two.

AutoAdvisor says: "SUV’s are becoming more and more popular across the world thanks to major developments made in modern technology. There are small crossover SUV’s that replace regular hatchbacks, compact SUV’s to replace sedans and station-wagons and even full size SUV’s that are threatening luxury limo’s and larger sedans.

"Now that the SUV has established itself as the choice of vehicle for the future, manufacturers have begun a new race in the SUV segment. Meet the Super-SUV, the equivalent of the supercar but in SUV format."

Here are five super-SUV’s that are really pushing the envelope of this new segment.
