Cape Town - The Ford Mustang picked up in January 2017 where it ended 2016: as South Africa's best-selling sports cars.
A pressing economy and a recovering rand all played a part in dismal sales across the new vehicle market, but perhaps the biggest telling sign of this strain can be seen in the sports car category.
Dwindling numbers
The Mustang found a massive 128 new owners; more than four times what the second-placed Porsche 911 achieved on 29! The Porsche Cayman/Boxster sold the third most units on 20.
BMW's electric sports car, the i8, found six new owners, followed by the Nissan GT-R (five owners) in fifth.
The Audi R8 and Ferrari 488 Spider each sold a solitary unit.
