Glow-worm cave fatal attraction

WELLINGTON, New Zealand - An American couple's honeymoon ended in tragedy with the husband killed in a car crash near a popular New Zealand tourist attraction.

Police inspector Leo Tooman says a 31-year-old man died and his 28-year-old wife of four days was critically injured when their car collided with a truck on Thursday morning.

SECOND TRAGEDY

He said the couple, from New Jersey, failed to yield at a road junction near the Waitomo Caves.

The network of caves attracts thousands of tourists each year who come to see the glow worms, an usual species with a bio-luminescent glow similar to that of a firefly.

Another American tourist died at the same intersection in February, 2012.

New Zealanders drive on the left side of the road. Tourists have been known to revert to the opposite side in traffic emergencies.
