Voting booth: Elantra edges ahead

Gallery - 2012 SA Car of the Year finalists

Our readers' poll about which vehicle should be the 2012 South African Car of the Year has so far attracted 21 662 votes.

In 2011 we reported on the SA Guild of Motoring Journalists' finalists for South Africa's Car of the Year nominees.

HERE'S HOW THEY SCORED...

In the early weeks of voting Ford's Focus (5383 votes) may have been trouncing Hyundai's Elantra, but since then the Korean automaker has edged ahead with 5775 votes.

Alfa Romeo's Giulietta is in third place with 2542 votes, ahead of Volkswagen's Jetta in fourth with 2470 votes.

Audi's A6 (1614 votes) claims fourth place in our poll followed by the Mercedes-Benz SLK (1118 votes) and Suzuki's Kizashi (924 votes) in sixth and seventh place, respectively.

Bringing up the rear of the COTY pack are Kia's budget Picanto (879 votes) in eighth place,  with Citroen's DS4 (666 votes) and Peugeot's 5008 (204 votes) coming in ninth and tenth place.

Judges will decide on the 2011 COTY in March 2012, but Wheels24 readers - for now - seem torn between the US and Korean automaker's rides.
