Special 169 kW GTI celebrates 30 years of the brand

The Golf GTI Edition 30 was unveiled at a VW enthusiast's day in Germany in front of thousands of Golf drivers from throughout Europe.

With a potent 169 kW 2-litre turbo FSI engine, the Edition 30 study is based on the current production model and it could hint at VW's future plans with this iconic hatch.

Not only is it more powerful than the current GTI but it also appears sportier. Especially prominent are the flat black 18-inch alloy wheels, the lower front and rear panels, the side skirts in body finish and the darkened tail lights.

A plaque on the right side of the rear hatch with the text "Edition 30" identifies this GTI study.

The interior includes top-quality, part-leather sport seats sporting the distinctive "Interlagos" diamond pattern in the cloth centre section.

Although VW is mum about production plans for this GTI sizzler it does make sense to boost the GTI's power as rivals such as the Focus ST offers more power at competitive pricing.
