Trendy makeover for new Pug

Peugeot ultra-compact 107 hatch has been around in South Africa since 2006 and since then has undergone a major makeover in 2009.

For 2012, the French automaker's little hatch goes back under the knife with another facelift featuring a new styling package for the front end, interior tweaks and an updated engine.

Peugeot has made the 107 is better value offering in the A-segment as it adds a five-year or 100000km maintenance plan and a five-year or 100000 km warranty.

MORE FRUGAL ENGINE

Powering the 107 is the familiar 1.0 three-cylinder unit capable of 50kW at 6000 r/min and 93 Nm with a torque peak of 3600 r/min. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual.

The engine however has been updated to be slightly more fuel efficient with a consumption rating of 4.3-litres/100km, down from 4.6l/100km. The 107 is more green-friendly with CO2 emissions reduced to 99 g/km.

A FRESH FACE

The front end of the new 107 has been completely redesigned with a more assertive profile courtesy of the new bonnet, extended front headlights and new honeycomb grille.  Intake apertures are slimmer and more subtle, while the number plate holder is mounted higher, above the air intake.

The Trendy model has LED daytime running lights and is also fitted with recessed fog lamps embellished by chromed detailing. The rear styling remains unchanged.

The interior of the new 107 receives a makeover with a new colour scheme, revised cloth upholstery and dashboard trim. The dashboard is finished in black hue.

The centre console sports a new audio system with MP3 compatibility. The Trendy variant includes Bluetooth and a USB port.
