Sonata, Cruze get American Coty nod

Semi-finalists in the 2011 North American Car of the Year and Truck of the Year contest have been announced.

The Car list includes the Audi A8, Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Sonata hybrid, Jaguar XJ, Mazda2, Volkswagen Jetta and Volvo S60.

Also included were the Chevrolet Volt hybrid, Nissan’s Juke and all-electric Leaf, the Buick Regal, Kia Optima and Infiniti M37/56.

The semi-finalists in the Truck category are the Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Kia’s Sportage and Sorento, the Mercedes-Benz R-Class, Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg.

The Dodge Durango, Ford Edge and Explorer, Honda Odyssey, Infiniti QX56, Lincoln MKX and Toyota Sienna also made the list.

The cars were selected by forty-nine automotive journalists from the US and Canada who judged the finalists on criteria including innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value for money.  

The winners will be announced on January 10, 2011 on the first media day of the annual Detroit auto show.

Ford’s Fusion and Transit Connect were voted the North American Car and Truck of the Year, respectively, for 2010.
