Lovin' couples having sex in cars has forced wealthy New Yorkers to demand a parking ban in a popular Manhattan clubbing strip.
Frisky night people are said to be littering the area with condoms outside clubs in the Chelsea district in what residents have told the New York Post is "a controlled riot" of drugs, sex and (heaven forbid!) double-parking on their street on Friday and Saturday nights. They want a different kind of action...
Resident Richard Schwartz told the Post: "The cops are called all the time - drugs, sex, double parking, cars honking their horns, traffic blocked up."
'SEX, VIOLENCE, DRUG USE'
Angry local want weekend night parking banned on their section of West 30th Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues. And they may, like some lucky punters from the clubs, just get their way... the city's transport department is considering the residents' proposal and their petition to City Hall.
Raju Mann, chairman of the local transportation committee, said: "There’s all kinds of problematic activity going on - noise, violence, sexual activity and drug use."
If parking is banned - even for Rolls-Royces and other luxmobiles - then vehicles could be towed. Which could bring new meaning to "did the earth move for you, too, babe?"
New York is the only city in the US where car owners are the minority; only 20% of Manhattan residents own a vehicle.
Two popular clubs, Rebel NYC and The Parlour, are located near the area where the demand for a parking ban was made. The State Liquor Authority denied The Parlour’s request to renew its licence after several complaints.
