Runaway car on a lucky roll

ADELAIDE, Australia - Police say a station-wagon reported stolen from an Australian shopping centre has been found more than two weeks later... in the garage of a nearby home.

How come so? Well, here's how it (almost unbelievably) went down...

GOING ALL THE WAY

Police said the wagon's owner reported it stolen from outside a suburban shop on December 18 but on January 5 the police dispatcher took a call from the owner of a house near the shopping centre. The family had just returned from their Christmas holiday and found a strange car parked in their garage.

It's registration plates identified it as the car missing from the shopping centre; the damaged garage door indictated something strange had happened.

The police report has now concluded that the car's owner failed to leave its gear shifter in park and it rolled away across the car park, across access road and then - by incredible chance - it made it into the driveway of a house opposite.

Stlll not happy with its escape attempt, the car knocked the garage door off its track, passed under it into the garage, and the door then closed behind it.

And if you believe all that, well...
