Renault’s Kangoo has set a fuel consumption record with a revised range of Energy turbodiesel engines.
Following on the introduction of the Kangoo ZE, an electric version of Renault’s light van launched in Europe at the end of 2011, the new Energy dCi 90 and 75 deliver fuel consumption of 4.4 litres/100km. Their CO2 emissions equate to 115g/km.
Along with a claimed 16% fuel saving, oil change intervals have been extended to every 40 000km or two years, instead of the previous engine’s 30 000km or two years intervals in what the automaker says is the longest in this engine class.
FORMULA 1 TECH
The Energy dCi 90 and 75 are said to bring Renault’s Formula 1 technology to its road vehicles. The current 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo engine, in its two states of tune, is now packed with advanced technology, including the use of Diamond Like Carbon coating for the cam followers to reduce friction and improve energy efficiency.
It also comes with ESM (Energy Smart Management) braking/deceleration energy recovery and the latest-generation Stop&Start system.
The Energy dCi 75 produces 56kW and 180Nm of torque at 1750rpm.
A 67kW/200Nm Kangoo Energy dCi 90 with will be on display at the upcoming Geneva auto show before going on sale in France.
