Renault extends Clio Gordini

French automaker Renault has extended its Gordini performance line-up by adding two more Clios.

The Gordinis Renault says, have proved popular and account for 27% of overall Clio Renaultsport sales in Europe and 10% in Britain. The Gordini comes as a coupe in two models, a petrol 1.6 VVT 128 and diesel 1.5 dCi 106. South Africa already has the the Clio Gordini RS and Gordini Sport.

The 128 took the rev-loving engine from the Clio GT and shoots from 0-100 in 9.3 seconds, combined with 6.72/100km on the combined cycle.

The 106 is at home on the open road and the urban environment due to its six-speed gearbox, compact dimensions and lively performance. It is capable of 4.52/100km and tops 190km/h with a 110g/km CO2 emissions factor.

GORDINI STYLING RETAINED

Gordini styling has been retained with the personality maintained by two white racing stripes across the bonnet, roof and tail hatch. Also added are co-ordinating white electric folding door mirrors and front bumper strip, Gordini badges, 16” Turini alloy rims, body-colour rear spoiler and twin tailpipes.

Other enhancements are body-coloured side mouldings and door releases, extra-tinted side and rear glass, front fog lights and fixed cornering lights.

The interior is Gordini personified with grey cloth upholstery with the Gordini logo, a leather steering wheel with grey detail and white stripe, satin chromed gear knob and black surround with satin chromed gaiter lever. Other elements include gloss-black detailing for the centre console and fascia and air vent surrounds and a white rev counter.

Other specifications include a 4x20W radio CD with auxiliary input and fingertip remote controls, auto lights and wipers, air-conditioning, cruise control, front curtain airbags and speed limiter. Further upgrades include TomTom satellite navigation (in some markets), multi-functional TunePoint or powered sunroof.

Optional colours are blue, black and deep red with the standard body colour, white, featuring contrasting black Gordini racing stripes, door mirrors and front bumper insert.

Renault South Africa were asked for information and they said there was no word yet of whether it will arrive in South Africa.
