Poles clone hot Lambo

Looks strikingly familiar doesn’t it? Polish firm Veno says its proposed supercar design is in no way influenced by the Lamborghini Reventon. Back in the real world we imagine lawyers in the town of Sant'Agata preparing court documents.

Missed out on Lamborghini’s Reventon? With only 20 built you’re not the only one.

Veno automotive, a Polish company, has a design on its hands which might be the solution for your Reventon desires - albeit a tasteless and a mite unoriginal though.

A good idea?

Poland has issues. The Russians are seemingly bored with knocking over former satellite states in the Caucasus region (Georgia) and have threatened to nuke Poland if they allow Bush to build his missile shield defence system there. Soccer hooligans too; Poland has the worst bunch in Europe – perhaps the world.

Now a bunch of Polish designers have added to the national malaise by enacting a deed of copyright infringement so brazen even Chinese manufactures have been left breathless.

Not Reventon inspired? Really?

Funded by British venture capital firm Heros, Veno automotive has a strong reputation as an aftermarket tuning parts distributor; its venture into supercar manufacturing has the makings of epic embarrassment though.

Veno says its supercar design is inspired by jetfighter aircraft; we say look at the pictures and tell us if you see anything but a Lamborghini Reventon rip-off.

Currently the car is still in the conceptual, desk-top knockabout phase; if it goes anywhere near production – Veno hopes to sell 15 a year – expect Lamborghini to unleash a torrent of legal action hinging on copyright infringement.

Audi power, Corvette back-up

When the Veno Reventon replica (as we've christened it) goes into production at a currently unspecified future date, power will allegedly come from either Audi and Corvette engines. We can hardly believe Audi will make its engines available to power something which is such an affront to Lamborghini – owned by Ingolstadt’s famous car maker.

Veno claims three incarnations of the 4.2-litre Audi V8 will be available, from 257- up to 514kW. If they actually get hold of these engines under license from Audi it should be fascinating to see Veno extract 514kW from Audi’s 4.2-litre V8 whilst passing Euro emission control and basic reliability parameters.

Perhaps the GM engine deal has something to do with the pending American missile defence system being touted for Polish soil. Just quite how Veno plans to get its hands on the Corvette sourced, 478kW 6.2-liter supercharged V8 they promise to have by the middle of next year remains unclear; especially with no date set for a tangible car yet…

Environmentally aware too, these Veno blokes. Intensive research into battery power has commenced; enabling an electric version of the Reventon replica – if the car ever comes to fruition.

You might think it’s all a tragically delayed April fools’ joke, but Veno claims its high-tech chassis design is made to cope with 750kW; guess they’ll be scratching about in the Bugatti factory in France for some spare Veyron engines then.

Features should include lashings of carbon-fibre bodywork and composite brakes – two technical details which actually seem plausible. A night vision camera with pedestrian detection, onboard computer with internet access and doors that open with the touch of a button are on the cars too.

Ridiculous design, can-do company

It would be very easy to dismiss this as an audacious media stunt to punt a couple of designers, but Veno is a credible company, with British money behind it. Veno owns Carbon Design for example, which has the technical resources to design and build the car's carbon fibre body.

In February this year Veno's CEO Arkadiusz Kuich said his company was on the verge of purchasing an European sport car manufacturer. The deal has obviously gone sour in the interim months, necessitating Veno to go it alone. Gutsy.

Veno really needs an original design; or an absolutely awesome legal team to get the current design ratified in the face of a Lamborghini legal challenge.
