Fresh Opel Astra - spot the difference!
You'll have to look twice to notice the changes to the freshened-up Astra range, after Opel released the first details about the car's midlife facelift

According to Opel the changes include fresh design accents and new engines that are more compact, powerful and economical.

In terms of exterior styling changes there are new chrome detailing to the grille, altered light treatment and slightly tweaked bumpers.

The interior features additional chrome rings around the air conditioning and radio controls, as well as new decorative trim on the instrument panel and doors.

Astra engine range is expanded with two new 1.6-liter petrol engines and two 1.7 CDTI common-rail turbo-diesel units.

The new weight-optimized 1.6 TWINPORT ECOTEC (85 kW) with a variable camshaft joins the 1.6-liter TWINPORT engine (77kW).

A new 1.6-liter turbo engine (132 kW) replaces the 2.0-liter turbo with 125 kW and comes with a six-speed transmission as standard.

The 1.7 CDTI engines, which will replace the 1.9-litre units, kick out 81 kW or 92 kW. It is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission and feature common-rail injection, four-valve technology with swirl control and a maintenance-free particulate filter.

  • Opel's brand manager in South Africa, Herman Schutte, told Wheels24 that the facelifted Astra range will be here in June 2007.
