New Yaris shines in Euro NCAP

Toyota's new Yaris has passed its Euro NCAP crash and safety testing with flying colours achieving a five-star rating.

The third generation Yaris builds on its predeccors five star ratings first achieved by the orginal model in 2000. The first generation model was named the safest car in its class by Euro NCAP.

Impact forces from either a front, rear or side collision are dispersed through strategically engineered elements within the body, to minimise deformation of the cabin.

The new model features increased safety in side impacts by fitting bulkheads inside the rocker panels to help mitigate impacts. Additional protection is provided by side impact bars fitted in the doors.

PEDESTRIAN PROTECTION

The new Yaris sports seven airbags, including a driver’s knee airbag. The driver and front passenger side airbags have a new two-chamber design that improves protection with larger cushions.

The front bumper contains energy absorbing materials to reduce the impact energy directed at a pedestrian’s legs, and a pantograph bonnet structure also absorbs energy to protect the head and body in a collision.

There is a crushable cowl louvre at the rear edge of the bonnet.

New Yaris will be offered with a host of further safety benefits, including ABS, EBD, corner stability control, brake assist, traction control and vehicle stability control.
