Most potent Megane packs 183 kW

Although the hottest RS Megane yet is hardly new news, Renault has released more info about this 183-kW neck-snapper.

The RS Megane 250 (with 250 horsepower) was unveiled in Geneva earlier this year, but Renault has now revealed more details ahead of its European launch early next year.

The car will be offered in Sport and Cup configurations, with the latter sporting a limited slip diff to hopefully keep torque steer in check, a stiffer anti-roll bar, springs and dampers and a few other choice scorching hatch essentials. Spot the red Brembo calipers and 18-inch satin black alloys…

This diff reserved for the Cup is carried over from the potent Megane R26 R and should do a decent job of keeping the RS's 183 kW from its turbocharged 2.0-litre from running amok. Torque of 340 Nm comes up from a low 1 800 r/min that should translate to a very drivable hot hatch experience.

Of course, Renault's PerfoHub, which acts on the front suspension too, is helpful where it undercuts torque steer and improves traction on those fun and winding road sections.

But don't be intimidated by this Megane's white-knuckle demeanour. Drivers and passengers, after slotting their bums into the snug Recaro buckets, can expect eight airbags, Bluetooth, cruise control, climate control and a few choice add-ons to soften the blow brought about by that ride…

Look out for RS Megane 250 when it touches down in SA by the middle of 2010.
