It has thus far been a significant year for Lotus.

The company has a new boss, who has taken the helm at Hethel with significant pressure from Malaysian owners Proton to start turning a profit.

Lotus has built the first customer F1 car too; it was unveiled last week.

With the Paris motor show a week away, expectations are high that Lotus will showcase a revived Esprit – enabling the company to move its sales and marketing effort into Porsche 911-territory.

Beyond the "new" Esprit, the Lotus Evora will showcase two new derivatives in Paris too.

Thanks to an error of judgement by Lotus’s PR department, an email has leaked promising a new Evora S.  We’ll take the new moniker as denoting "supercharged".

This new supercharged Evora variant should address the criticism of Lotus’s most comfortable car being too civilised and lacking the power to fully exploit its dynamics.

The other Evora news may upset Lotus traditionalists a touch - a dual-pedal automatic model is on the cards for Paris too. When was the last time Lotus marketed an automatic option for one of its cars? Well, exactly…
