Lexus IS-F gets a LSD fix

Toyota’s alarming performance sedan, the Lexus IS-F, has been subtly upgraded for model year 2010.

Although styling remains untouched, dynamics are shored up with suspension and drive distribution technology.

Thus far the IS-F has relied on an ABS actuated vehicle dynamics system to control rear axle traction under extreme conditions.

Lexus has now replaced this system with a Torsen slippy-diff at the rear, which should appeal to traditional enthusiast (and drifting types) no end.

This new rear differential unit is lubricated by low viscosity multigrade oil to reduce bearing rolling resistance and oil agitation resistance when operating temperature is low.

Lexus claims the new diff has trimmed two seconds off the IS-F's Fuji raceway lap time.

Wheel attachments feature increased spring and damper rates, larger-diameter stabiliser bars and upgraded control arms to best control the new 19-inch wheels on the 2010 IS-F.

Those new wheels hide the Brembo brake rotors, 360mm fore and 345mm in diameter aft.

Audio upgrades to the IS-F include iPod/USB connectivity, Bluetooth streaming audio and integrated XM Satellite Radio and NavTraffic/Weather/Sports/Stocks features.

Local performance sedan fans still hope the IS-F will make South African landfall before the end of this year.
