Hot on the heels of Mercedes-Benz's introduction of the all-new E-Class sedan, the German manufacturer has leaked details and images of its next assault on the performance sedan segment - the E63 AMG.
The E63 will be powered by the naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 familiar to the rest of the AMG range. Power is only marginally up on the outgoing model (382 kW versus 378 kW) and torque remains unchanged at 630 Nm.
The modest increase may be a big disappointment for fans hoping the new-generation model would punch out more than 400 kW, much like Audi's current RS6.
According to Mercedes-Benz, however, the new E63 AMG should post a 12% improvement in fuel economy. Most of the gains are attributed to the car's new seven-speed transmission with four driving modes: Controlled Efficiency, Sport, Sport Plus and Manual.
Visually, the new E63 will come with AMG-specific 18-inch wheels, a sporty body kit and AMG's quad-exhaust to set it apart from its tamer siblings.
The production E63 AMG is expected to make its official debut at the New York Motor Show in April.
