Volkswagen's bread-and-butter Jetta sedan goes on sale in Europe and is expected to make its way to South Africa next year.
No longer simply derived from the Golf hatchback, the Jetta is now longer and more spacious than before with its overall length of 4.64 m. Jetta's styling, particularly when viewed in profile, shows some clear Audi influences.
The Passat will also benefit from a new range of engines, although Volkswagen SA has said it will only confirm the local lineup ahead of the Jetta 6’s launch in the third quarter of 2011. The 77-kW 1.6 TDI, 90-, 118kW 1.4 and 147-kW 2.0 TSI engines are expected to feature in the range, though.
Expect BlueMotion technology, debuted in South Africa on the recently-launched Touareg full-size SUV, and seven-speed DSG to add to the Jetta’s list of fuel-saving goods.
As before, the Jetta will be sourced at Volkswagen’s Puebla, Mexico plant. It will, as with Golf 6, be made available in three trim levels – Trendline, Comfortline and Highline.
