How to win, crash and sell a Lambo

UTAH, USA - A Utah truck driver who won a Lamborghini in a competition crashed the R2.5m supercar six hours after he received it.

Dopp spun out of control a few hours after taking the keys to the Murcielago Roadster that he won in a contest. The convertible is now being held by his insurance company and will be sent to a Lamborghini dealer in Las Vegas for repairs.

He now plans to sell the smashed 470kW convertible because he can’t afford the insurance or taxes.

The damage to his ride includes a hole in the sump, a punctured wheel and a few dents and scratches on the front and rear ends which Dopp describes as not being “super bad”.

WRECKED SUPERCAR: David Dopp wrecked his R2.5m supercar a mere six hours after winning it in a competition.

NOT FOR 'POOR PEOPLE'

David Dopp said: “I already had offers on it. I'm going to sell it. I have bills more important than a Lamborghini. I've got a family to support.

“That's why rich people own them,” he continued. “Poor people like me don't.”

He says he couldn't afford to pay taxes on the car or the insurance, which runs to R58 000 a year.

Dopp was taking family members and friends on joy rides and said he took a bend at about 70km/h and “hit some black ice and spun out.”

The car jumped a kerb and went through a fence before coming to a rest 20m away.
