The new Twingo Renaultsport will be headed to South Africa in the next few months and here’s what fans of the miniature missile can look forward to.
This Twingo RS shows off Renault’s new family face plus a grille with a Nissan Juke-like, four-light arrangement along with a front blade inspired by F1 cars and the French automaker's association with the sport.
Contrasting black detailing is also used for the rear spoiler, rear bumper that incorporates a diffuser, and rear wheel-arch aerodynamic extensions.
LOOKS FAST, GOES FASTER
In the cabin, the top Twingo uses signature yellow stitching on the steering-wheel and seats; gloss black inserts for the fascia, instrument housing and air vents; and white detailing for the rev-counter border, steering-wheel and aircon controls.
Other new features include cruise control and speed limiter, Bluetooth, 16” alloy rims and a Renaultsport exhaust system with chromed tailpipes.
The Cup chassis is optional, too, along with a Design exterior package, bigger wheels and a Renaultsport Monitor telemetry system for wannabe racers who’ll have the run of the Twingo’s entertaining nature.
The Twingo’s naturally aspirated 1.6 engine puts out 98kW at 6750rpm and 160Nm of torque at 4400rpm and is backed up by extra-powerful front and rear disc brakes.
CUP RUNNETH OVER
While the standard Sport Chassis should ensure a high level of entertainment, an optional Cup chassis with a ride height lower by 4mm, stiffer springs and dampers is a stand-out new feature in this Twingo’s class.
The Twingo RS’s top speed is listed as 201km/h by the automaker but despite the car's crazy performance Renault also claims CO2 emissions are down to 150g/km and fuel efficiency improved to 6.5 litres/100km, a saving of about three percent.
Renault SA’s told Wheels24 the updated Twingo RS will be launched here in the third quarter of 2012, just a few months after the launch of the “regular” Twingo.
