GTI phone debut at Wörthersee

VW has pandered to the Wörthersee faithful by preparing special edition versions of both the new VW GTI and Polo.

Each year VW (and to a lesser extent Audi) descend upon the Wörthersee lake in Austria to showcase new and unique products, from outrageous concepts to limited edition versions of current models.

For this year’s event, VW’s opening offering is Wörthersee ’09 editions of the company’s best selling hatchbacks.

First up is Golf 6. VW’s finished its Wörthersee ’09 GTI in Firespark Red, contrasting the striking hue with black, 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels and exterior surfacing accents. Rounding off the styling package are smoked LED taillights.

Interior embellishments include red contrast panels, with redesigned sport seats, trimmed in Nappa leather, pampering front occupants.

Although power remains at a factory standard 155kW, VW says it has added a performance exhaust system, which appears to be of only acoustic value…

Golf’s smaller sibling, Polo, sport quite a similar Wörthersee '09 package. Also sporting a red lacquer – Flash Red according VW specifications – contrasted by black rally stripes and five-spoke, 18-inch wheels, it has the appearance of a beguiling little hot hatch.

Inside you’ll find the standard VW black surfacing broken up by white panels and red accent stitching. The Polo is also equipped with a VW factory performance exhaust system.

Wörthersee cars always command strong prices as collectibles, and fittingly both Wörthersee '09 VWs sport commemorative doorsill plates, for the authentic VW acolyte.

Beyond the styling and performance exhaust addled acoustics, these Wörthersee '09 cars come equipped with SonyEricsson’s T700 GTI Edition cell phone – seriously.

With a GTI display logo, brushed aluminium surfacing and menuing architecture styled after GTI’s design, it’s an absolute must have for hardcore GTI fans who happen to be gadget geeks too.

The SonyEricsson’s T700 GTI Edition’s pièce de résistance though, is a unique GTI exhaust note ringtone…
