Fiat Group and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has reiterated that Alfa Romeo is not for sale - and went on to take a swipe at his rival at Volkswagen.
Automotive News reported that Marchionne, speaking on the sidelines of a JD Power and Associates conference, again rebuffed VW chairman Ferdinand Piech’s interest in buying Alfa from Fiat.
Marchionne said: “As long as I am CEO of Chrysler and Fiat, Mr Piech will never have Alfa Romeo. It’s hands-off. I told him. I will call him and I will e-mail him."
SHARED SENTIMENTS
Marchionne then told Piech to instead focus on "fixing" VW's Spanish-based subsidiary Seat. Piech had previously expressed interest in Alfa, but added VW AG wass not rushing to buy it.
Marchionne’s sentiments are shared by Fiat chairman John Elkann who told journalists at the recent 2011 Detroit auto show: “We (Fiat) would not sell Alfa even if we were offered tons of money."
