Fiat 500L for the 'trekkers'

Back to 500L story.

While the 500L (large) will be heading to SA in just a few months (September 2013), the Living and Trekking models have not been added to the list.

The Trekking model is for free-spirited beings who want to meander away for the weekend on some long gravel roads. Yes, think Mini Paceman - because it looks quite like it at a fast glance. Well this is Fiat’s version for those who want to ‘rough it’.

The Fiat 500L Trekking has a bit of a split personality: it’s perfect as a city-breezer or it can take you off the beaten track for a boy’s weekend of fishing or a romantic trip up a hill to a lover’s cabin.

TOUGH CHAPPIE

To set it apart from the 500L and its Living siblings, the Trekking has a higher suspension and specially designed bumpers with protective shield. It also has 17" diamond-finish alloys; chrome handles and brushed steel side mouldings.

Standard goods include smart front-wheel drive with traction+ technology which, together with "snowflake" tyres, improves the vehicle's handling on terrain with poor grip.

It’s big enough for the kids, travelling buddies and has a boot space of 455 litres.

The Fiat 500L Trekking is available with two petrol engines - the 70kW 1.4 16v and the 78kW 0.9 TwinAir Turbo - and two turbo diesel engines - the 78kW 1.6 MultiJet2 and the 60kW 1.3 MultiJet2, the latter also comes with dualogic robotised automatic transmission.

In addition to the equipment of the 500L Pop Star, the Trekking also has auto air con, electric rear windows, fog lights, Traction+ system, CD/MP3 UConnect radio with a touchscreen display, automatic headlights and rain sensor.

One of the engine options which best demonstrates the new model's explorer's spirit is certainly the 78Kw 1.6 MultiJet2, the turbodiesel recently launched as part of the 500L range. It’s a clear winner as 20% of customers has opted for it in the past four months since its launch.

The same engine has been chosen for the exclusive 500L Trekking Opening Edition. This model was launched in June in Italy. It has wo-tone paint, rear parking sensors, city brake control, Beats Hi-Fi sound system and Comfort Pack – includes front armrest and electric lumbar front seat adjustment.
