Ferrari’s two most visible brand ambassadors have been tasked with family duties for 2012… F1 drivers Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso have received the keys to two yummy, specially prepared Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8s.
The custom-built versions of the performance Grand Cherokee SRT8 are tricked out in exclusive Rosso Corsa exteriors with matching red leather interiors and a number of SRT-exclusive design details. The Jeep seven-slot grille is painted matte black with red inserts and a race-inspired black stripe with white accents runs from the front bumper, over the bonnet, roof and rear spoiler, and down to the rear bumper. As a tribute to Ferrari’s Formula 1 car, an Italian flag has been painted on the underside of the rear spoiler.
The ride height is lowered and the SRT8s ride on forged aluminium 20” wheels with a black finish.
HEMI POWER
Similarly, the interior has exclusive Ferrari Red leather inserts on the seats with sculpted bolsters while the door trim panels, the central armrest and the instrument panel also boast exclusive red leather. The leather-wrapped SRT8 steering wheel with mounted paddle shifters features red contrasting stitching. The unique instrument cluster features yellow dials to give the cabin the look of the GT cars produced in Maranello.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is powered by the all-new 6.4-litre HEMI V8 engine with fuel saver technology that turns off four of the eight cylinders when full power is not required to ensure increased fuel economy. Thanks to the V8’s 344 kW of power and 624 Nm of torque, the SRT8 model sprints from 0-100 km/h in 5 seconds, has a top speed of 257 km/h.
The two, uniquely customised Grand Cherokee SRT8 models also serve as a preview, of sorts. The new high-performance model of Jeep’s flagship SUV, without the Ferrari accessories, is set to go on sale in Europe from May, 2012.
The all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 will be launched in South Africa in the third quarter of 2012.
