Cowabunga! A turtle-powered car

Most students have to juggle studies, a part-time job and binge drinking, but a 23-year-old student in the US used her extra cash to customise a Dodge Caravan into the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle (TMNT) van from the popular 90s animated show. It’s even called Shredder.

Brittney Schneck worked on her turtle power van for over a year, juggling two part-time jobs and studying. When she bought the 16-year-old Caravan, it arrived with rusted panels but she said she chose it because the parts would be easy to come by.

Schneck converted her van by hand-painting and stencilling graphics on the exterior. She created the extras such the “ray guns”, spoiler and other bits from the original van from scratch.

According to Jalopnik.com, Schneck said, "The Turtles played a huge role in my childhood - growing up with all my male cousins, playing Ninja Turtles while my Uncle Harry (Uncle Shredder) chased us around doing an exact voice of The Shredder.”

Though Schneck has stuck to accurately replicating the van, minus the four mutant amphibians, there is one concession to the TMNT van’s authenticity – the Turtles drove a Volkswagen.

Despite that minor oversight, we reckon Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael and Donatello would be proud...
