<b>LOOKING TO THE PAST: </b>BMW's M Performance range takes its cue from the legendary M535i of the 1980's.

Called BMW M Performance Automobiles, the range will be presented to the public for the first time at the 2012 Geneva auto show (March 8-18) and promises a balance between the high-performance qualities of the M range and the “comfort and practicality” of regular BMW products.
Friedrich Nitschke, president of BMW M, said: "We're targeting customers who want more emotion and more performance yet don’t want to forgo the everyday usability of their car.”
A LITTLE HELP FROM M
He revealed plans for further additions, referring to “a range including a wide variety of model series, as well as petrol and diesel variants”. “The BMW M Performance Automobiles benefit from the full expertise of BMW M GmbH,” Nitschke emphasised.
BMW compares the M Performance range to the automaker’s M535i, unveiled in 1980 and which instantly captured hearts with its greater power output, tuned chassis and sportier design, despite being sold alongside the M5.
“Our aim with the BMW M Performance Automobiles is to continue this tradition,” Nitschke confirmed
NO LACK OF M POWER
A goal that should not prove too testing, considering 2011 was one of the most successful years for the M nomenclature, boosted by the introduction of the 1 Series M Coupe and the all-new M5 (soon to be launched in South Africa - Wheels24 will be there).
The fun will continue with, most notably, the world premiere of the M6.
