Want to get your kids into an environmentally friendly motoring frame of mind? Love pre-war racing cars?
Well, Audi has just the thing for you - it is the company’s latest spin on its e-tron concept that's scheduled to debut at the 62nd International Toy Fair in Nuremburg during the first week of February.
Audi’s newest e-tron variant is an electric miniature car paying homage to the company’s classic Auto Union racer.
SILVER ARROWS JNR
At 2.3ml ong and less than a metre across, the Auto Union Type C e-tron’s proportions faithfully retain its 1930s competition car processor's cigar-shaped silhouette – if only at half the original scale.
Detailing is beautiful throughout with the classic oversized grille and period-specific wireframe wheels all finished in Audi’s alloy of choice, aluminium.
Instead of a belt-driven forced induction V16, the Auto Union Type C e-tron is powered by a 1kW electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery pack.
This half-scale Auto Union Type C may be down on power by 403kW compared to its illustrious racing forebea, yet, with 60Nm of torque available, is good for a top speed of 30km/h and range of 25km – figures sure to appease even the keenest underage drivers…
Recharging is via 230V domestic socket and takes about two hours.
Audi says the Auto Union Type C e-tron’s cockpit is generous enough to accommodate a driver of up to 1.8m in height. This adult-friendly configuration is just as well, as many parents who option on this ‘toy’ car for their children will probably allocate a substantial amount of seat-time to themselves - to live out those Bernd Rosemeyer fantasies of yore…
