LONDON, England - The British automaker has unveiled its green monster: a Hydrogen-powered racer, the first of its kind to race in an international 24-hour challenge.
The Nürburgring, Germany, will be the stage of the first time hydrogen-powered vehicle as it completed a lap of an international racing competition.
According to the report by John Hutchinson from the Daily Mail, the hybrid Hydrogen Rapide S will debut at the Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance race in Germany for 2013, which coincides with the British car company's centenary year.
BOOSTING POWER
Aston Martin has worked with hydrogen experts, Alset Global, in the hope of proving its green goodness that a CO2 race lap is possible.
The hydrogen, when mixed with oxygen in the air, will leave only a water-based substance according to the Daily Mail.
Under the bonnet of the car lies a six-litre, V12 engine, which is capable of running on pure gaseous hydrogen, pure fuel or a combination of the two.
MEAN MACHINE
The Rapide S has a claimed top speed of 305kW and accelerates from zero to 100km/h in 4.7 seconds. Performance testing on results for the hydrogen propulsion will be tested to the full in Germany at a later stage.
But because of the extra weight of the hydrogen canisters, performance will be affected with two towards the rear of the car, running on hydrogen while the next two cans won’t be seeing any hydrogen results.
The automaker is also uncertain of the car’s future after the race, yet they’re determined to make this car a hybrid of performance.
