Self-driving and electric vehicles are slowly becoming the norm in Europe and the USA but South Africa still trails behind in terms of uptake and infrastructure.

The age of autonomous, electric cars is upon us and the technology has become more affordable and available in the last few years.

With the ever-increasing petrol price, motorists and the auto industry are searching for affordable and sustainable mobility.

Carte Blanche said: "No driver's seat and no steering wheel – the future of driving is autonomous and electric.

"While the idea of cars controlling themselves may seem alarming to some, the first fully autonomous vehicle will arrive in South Africa by next year and the laws and infrastructure in the country will have to catch up quickly."
