Not all automakers started out in the car industry. BMW made airplanes, Toyota produced weaving looms and in the mid-1800s, you might have purchased a patented Peugeot pepper mill.

While you can no longer pick up a Toyota sewing machine or a Jaguar sidecar, many car companies manufacture a lot more than passenger vehicles.

Nissan Fridge Concept

It's not too far of a stretch of the imagination to see a car company producing ambulances and food trucks, Nissan has a few concept cars on the table that is a rather large departure from the traditional versions.

The Nissan e-Fridge boasts zero emissions and extra batteries designed for easy food delivery in urban areas; whereas their new Paramedic concept is packed with life-saving equipment designed to assist with emergencies in rural areas as well as Intelligent Around View Monitor and technology to reduce the spread of germs.

The Lexus Yacht

Lexus has already successfully pulled a rabbit out of the hat with their Sport Yacht concept, but has plans to further expand their marine offering by building a premium yacht. The production version is expected to be 19 metres long with state rooms below deck and room to entertain to 15 guests.

Jaguar Land Rover's Maps

Land Rovers are built for the great outdoors, which is why Jaguar Land Rover's venture capital arm have invested in FatMap, a global 3D mapping tech company that enables runners, hikers, skiers and climbers to navigate the off-road world with ease.
