Toyota used the Los Angeles motor show to debut a new performance model with an estimated 225kW, all-wheel drive, sport-tuned suspension called the Rav4 Prime.
It's also the first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) Rav4 and Toyota claims it'll do the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.8 seconds.
The flagship model employs the same version of electronic on-demand all-wheel drive (AWD) as the Rav4 Hybrid model, which isn't available in SA.

The Rav4 Prime has not been confirmed for the South African market, however it will arrive in the United States in 2020.
Some cool features include the optional 'Weather & Moonroof Package' which Toyota says lets in the sun, moon and stars while keeping the cold at bay with a heated steering wheel, heated rear outboard seats, and windshield wiper de-icer, while rain-sensing windshield wipers.
The local Rav4 line up includes the entry-level front-wheel drive GX grade in manual and CVT derivatives, GX-R grade with the 2.0-litre CVT all-wheel drive format and the flagship VX specification can be had in 2.0-litre CVT front-wheel drive or 2.5 8AT all-wheel drive form.
