GWM’s H6 has been a great success for the automaker in China, reportedly selling 20 000 units a month. They're now on sale in South Africa.
Its arrival coincides with GWM introducing two more engines to South Africa - a 105kW/310Nm two-litre turbodiesel in the flagship and a soon-to-arrive 1.5-litre, 105kW/201Nm turbopetrol.
Both drive through a six-speed manual with claimed fuel consumption figures of of 6.7 and 8.5 litres/100km.

H6 units come with 17" alloy rims, full colour-coding and chromed detail, roof rails, fog lights front and rear and privacy glass. Standard colours are white, silver, blue red, grey and black.
The H6 is 4.6m long, has a 2.6mm wheelbase and 180mm ground clearance which combine, GWM says, for the model to compete with, for instance, Hyundai’s ix35 and Kia's Sportage (essentially the same vehicles). However, it sees the pricing s closer to entry-level crossovers.
'BETTER-EQUIPPED H6'
The cabin is equipped with a colour touch-screen with radio, CD, DVD and MP3 and supported by a mini-SD slot (below the screen), USB and auxiliary ports are in the storage box between the front seats and the H6 is also equipped with Bluetooth and reversing camera.
Standard kit include aircon, power steering, cruise control, power windows and external mirrors and auto wipers and headlghts.
GWM sys the H6 achieved the maximum five-star rating in Chinese NCAP crash tests. The SUV has two front airbags, anti-lock disc brakes, electronic brake pressure distribution and emergency braking assistance. IsoFix child seat anchors are standard, as are tyre-pressure monitors.
BUT WHAT ABOUT SAFETY?
GWM SA chairman Tony Pinfold said: “We are very confident that the H6 can be similarly successful in South Africa.
“As proven in its domestic market, against the very rivals it will face in South Africa, the H6’s allure is not difficult to grasp; it offers class-leading space and comfort in a stylish, upmarket design, along with turbocharged power and excellent fuel economy.”
