BMW has not confirmed or denied the X6 xDrive M. Our spy photographers have caught it testing out in the open though.

Engineered to compete in the most nonsensical product niche around – performance SUVs – the X6 xDrive M should be the first BMW M-car to usher in the new range of forced induction high-performance engines.

In an attempt to muscle in on Porsche’s Cayenne Turbo S and Merc's ML63 AMG market space, the X6 xDrive M should employ a significantly upgraded version of the 4.4l twin-turbo V8 engine, producing about 367kW and 700Nm.

As mum as BMW wish to be, the images, showcasing side air-vents and dual exhausts, make it unfathomable to dismiss the car in question as just an X6 35d dressed in an ornate bodykit.

Industry analysts expect an announcement concerning the X6 xDrive M before the end of 2008, with North American sales commencing mid-way through 2009.
