Honda South Africa has added a high-value, high-specification two-litre model to its successful Accord sedan range.

The Accord 2.0 i-VTEC is now the most affordable model in the range.

The new derivative will be available with a choice of five-speed manual or automatic transmissions.

Its two-litre engine features Honda's i-VTEC variable valve timing system for the optimum balance of power output and usable torque. Power is 114 kW while torque is 190 Nm.

Honda claims that the manual Accord 2.0 goes from 0-100 km/h in 9.3 second, while top speed is a swift 217 km/h. The automatic version despatches the 0-100 km/h sprint in 10.3 sec, and boasts a maximum speed of 215 km/h.

According to Honda the combined fuel consumption is 8.0 litres/100 km, while its automatic stablemate posts a figure of 8.4 litres/100 km.

Included on the specification list are electric windows and mirrors, remote central locking, a trip computer and cruise control.

The Accord 2.0 also offers full leather upholstery, electrically operated front seats, auto headlamps and windscreen wipers, steering wheel-mounted satellite controls, alloy wheels and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.

Rounding off the standard package of features are sound system with integrated six-disc CD changer and eight loudspeakers, dual-zone climate control, and an electrically operated glass sunroof.

The front seats are heated, and the vanity mirrors in the sunshields are illuminated.

The Accord 2.0 is equipped with dual front, side and curtain airbags, side impact beams in the doors, front and rear inertia reel seatbelts with pre-tensioning, ISOFIX child seat indicators and childproof rear door locks.

Active safety systems include ABS anti-lock control for the all-disc braking system, operating in tandem with electronic brake force distribution (EBD), and emergency braking assistance (EBA).

The Accord 2.0 is aimed at entry-level contenders in the D-segment, including the Volvo S40 2.0, Toyota Avensis and Volkswagen Passat.

The Honda Accord 2.0 sells for R225 900 (Manual) and R237 900 (Automatic). The price includes a five-year, 100 000 km service plan, a three-year, 100 000 km warranty and a one-year roadside assistance package.
